Q: the oil light on my 1997 Toyota Tercel flickers when I brake or am idle.?
3 days ago, the oil light on my car started flickering if I applied the brakes or sat idle in traffic for at least a few seconds. Any guesses to what is going on or how to fix it. I have to return to school today which is 150 miles away and wanted to know if it would be safe to drive that distance and then get it checked out over there.

A: First check the oil level in your car. it might be low also it could be your oil sending unit but a cheap easy check is the oil level

Q: Where would an oil leak possibly be located on a 1997 toyota tercel?

A: most likley it the rear main seal on engine

Q: Air Bags & Safety?
Am I the only one to complain that my airbags didn't deploy at the time of my accident? On 07-06-07 while traveling in my White 1997 Toyota Tercel at approximately 35 p.m.h , I crashed into a vehicle in front of me , they never deployed , and to my knowledge were never deactivated to where I knew that they wouldn't deploy on me. Thank god I was wearing my seatbelt! There was gasoline leaking everywhere and the carburetor was cracked in half. The car is creamed ,its totaled. Why is it that they never deployed?

A: It's a possibility that there was something wrong with the air bag system. For example: I was in a head on collision in a 1999 Ford F-150. The drivers side airbag deployed, but the passenger side did not. This truck had a switch to turn off the passenger air bag, but it wasn't deactivated. When this was looked into, it turns out that the light bulb in the shut off switch had burned out and therefore deactivating the air bag. Great engineering, eh?

Q: Car recommendations wanted - good fuel economy but not too tiny?
My 1997 Toyota Tercel seems to be on its way to the junkyard. It's got over 100K miles and the same thing it did two months it's doing now and I really don't want to put any more money into it. As I haven't gone car shopping in over ten years I'm clueless to what would be the best car for me new or used. Here's what I want: - fuel economy - definitely don't want an SUV or truck - space - I have three show cats and it's been challenging fitting crates and luggage in the car for me and my friend for out of town shows - look - I'm not against a wagon-style car but most definitely will not drive a minivan LOL - prefer automatic as I live in the Seattle area with lots of hills. - 4WD would be a nice option. I like to go up into the mountains to hiking trails or to the passes in the snow. - price - under $20K A friend has a Subaru Outback and loves it. so thinking that might be an option or something similar. Also obviously have great faith in Toyotas. Recommendations? Firebird: two months I spent $600 to repair it and it's doing the same thing it did then. The shop warned me that it could happen again (the timing belt is slipping off) I'm hardly one to toss cars away if they're repairable - I've had this car 11 years and the one before it for 8. I'm not head over heals in debt and I own my own home. I just don't think it makes sense to sink another $600 to give me another two months till I have to spend another $600 or have it sieze up completely - do you not agree?

A: Don't get me wrong - if you've got plenty of money then it's fine to get a new one. It's just most folks who post on here are head over heels in debt. My first advice would be 100k miles is nothing these days. Get somebody on it that knows how to fix things for real. There are loads of people who would love to have the car you're driving. Listen to yourself saying "I really don't want to put any more money into it. I'd rather spend $20k" But, if you have the money, I'd say this: If you want fuel economy and space, and 4wd, then a Subaru would make sense. I don't think you can get one that cheap. I think among Hatchbacks, the Mazda 3 is pretty popular, and it's pretty reasonably priced. German hatchbacks are expensive. Toyota makes one called the Matrix. Have you looked at that?

Q: Toyota Headlight Replacement
How do I replace the headlight on a 1997 Toyota Paseo? I have bought a 9003 type bulb. The Paseo is a similar platform as the Tercel and a bit like the corolla so answers to any of the above models are appreciated.

A: Basically any vehicle that uses that type of replacement bulb would use a piece of plastic etc that has to be pushed and turned counter clockwise.Once you do this that piece will slide out with the bulb , then reverse proceedure but don't touch the healight bulb especially with your fingers bec that will cause certain acids and body oils to damage the bulb. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way always change both bulbs at once when dealing with headlites.

Q: ? about the new honda fit's safety?
i am looking for a new car see i drive a 1997 used toyota tercel car and behind the rear wheel the tercel is leaking oil i am looking at the new honda fit cars for my new car and i am concerned about these thinngs when buying a honda fit which are. safety for a person with one legally blind ey when it gets bashed into by other careless drivers can you get killed if someone runs into the driver's side of the honda fit car does it blow up smoke when someone hits you in the drivers side? thanks for your cooperation from marynaples

A: the Honda Fit is a new model. even though it's small, it still got a 4-1/2 star frontal and 4 star side crash test rating, quite durable for a subcompact hatchback. in fact, it's 1 of the top 10 most durable subcompacts of 2007. not just durable, but a nice looking one too
