Q: Toyota Maintance question?
I got a Toyota Tercel 1996, 157K, and I found that its powersteering is about to go out, and I want to change the timing belt, and get the braking system fix up too.
So how much am I looking at to fix all those. Also, the engine check light is on, what kind of problem it can be.
Thanks,
A: check engine light can be anything. GET IT SCANNED
Take it to a shop and they will make you an estimate.
Q: Check engine light came on?
I just bought a 1996 Toyota Tercel DX yesterday, and not 5 miles after driving it the check engine light popped on. The inspection sticker is new this month, it was just put on 2 weeks ago, so I was wondering if it is worth it to get it checked out right away or just wait until my next inspection. I know check engine lights are known to come on for stupid reasons, so I'm wondering if it's worth it to get it checked now.
A: First of all, you should certainly get it checked.
You can check a new website http://www.prundo.com/ to find some money saving coupons for all auto repairs including check engine light.
Some of the AutoZone also provides fee check. However you may not find the exact reason for the light. Last week I downloaded the coupon from this website and saved $50 by taking it to Midas!
This website also has other great coupons for brake replacement, transmission, tires and many more auto repair needs.
Hope you can save some money!
Q: EGR Valve Replacement Cost?
I have a 1996 Toyota Tercel and my check engine light came on. Took it to autozone and they did a diagnostic and they said that the EGR valve needs to be replaced.
They quoted me at $154.99 for the part and then I'd have to get it installed. Does this seem reasonable for the part? (I'm not much of a car guy) and what should the total repair cost me?
Also, is the part essential to driving the vehicle? I know that it has to do with emissions control and more efficient burning of gas, but is it going to effect me at all if I drive it for the next week without getting it fixed?
A: Yes. The cost looks reasonable. I also paid the same amount, with an installation cost of $150. Also, try a website http://prundo.com/ to find Auto repair coupons! You can find coupons for other repairs like oil change, brake, transmissions etc.
I hope this helps!
Q: Car Cigarette Lighter broken?
I recently have bought many items that plug into my car cigarette lighter output in my 1996 Toyota Tercel and one time I think I might have pulled out the adapter too fast. I heard a click inside like a metal part might have broken or the fuse might have gone bad, but it seems that whenever I plug in an adapter to charge my phone, or gps, or fm transmitter, it doesn't work anymore. Is there anyway that this problem can be fixed? I am not tech savy when it comes to opening up parts of the car and fixing wires together or anything like that so is there anyway I can get this problem fixed or if I can get a new whole piece which I can put in for cheap? I don't want to go overboard with this car since it already is very old. I just need to fix this one piece because I have many uses for it now.
I dont know where the fuse box is in this car.
A: First, I would check the fuse in the fuse block. It's location is in the owners manual. If you don't have the owners manual, a book from the auto parts store will have it and they are only $20. While you are there, you can pick up a new replacement receptacle for your lighter, for about $5.
Unplug the 2 wires from the back, unscrew the back of the receptacle from the front, and remove both pieces.
