Q: vacuman leack on a 1992 toyota tercel any ideals on where to find the line thats leacking?

A: take a can of starting fluid and spray near vacuum lines when the vehicle is idling. When you hear the engine idle raise or increase that where your vac line is leaking. Just be careful somtimes this can cause a fire (not likely but can). Soap and water only works on AC units so dont do that. Its a vacuum so the lines suck in so no bubbles.

Q: Front crankshaft seal leak or rear main seal leak?
My 1992 Toyota Tercel is leaking badly. You can even see traces of oil on the road and it seems that I'm using 1 quart of oil almost everyday. I called my dealer and he sent my car to their shop of choice and they "speculated" that it was the front crankshaft seal. I went to the mechanic I know and he said the leak was from the rear main seal. How would I know if the leak comes from the front crankshaft seal or the rear main seal?

A: Your engine is mounted transverse, which puts the "front" of the engine to the passenger side. The front crank seal would be leaking around the shaft of the lowest, largest pulley. While the rear main would be leaking from either the transmission inspection cover(automatic trans) or the bellhousing where the trans meets the engine block(manual trans) Of course, since these are both seals on the crankshaft, it may be leaking from both! These problems are best addressed by the competent care of a professional Auto tech as the crank may be off balance, due to a larger internal problem. try to diagnose your self by cleaning the lower half of the engine using a grease cutting solvent then spraying off at the local car wash, then by the time you have made it home it should be apparent where the leak actually is. Either way a mechanic should make the repair.

Q: Why won't my brake lights turn off on my car?
My brake lights on my 1992 Toyota Tercel won't turn off, and its killing my battery to the point where i cant even jump start the car! why is it doing this? please tell me how to fix it! thanks so much! hope it works!

A: Some How or other the switch is Sticking. Use either Graphite Powder or a Penetrating oil such as W-D 40. This can be Purchased at an Auto Parts Store. The Switch is Located on the Firewall where the Brake arm Hits it.

Q: Muffler broke, its loud now, what auto part am I describing?
I have a 1992 Toyota Tercel. When I went to get a shoulder replaced because it was oxidized, They told me that I would soon have to replace this flexible pipe that connects to my muffler. Yesterday, I started to hear that the exhaust (vroom vroom) sounds way louder than it should and I'm almost positive that its that pipe. its probably the size of a meter ruler and its flexible. The owner I bought the car from must have put it there to muffle the sound a bit and then sell it. Well, long story short, I think i need to replace that pipe and i think it is the first little pipe that is directly under the clutch when i drive. Anyone know what that is called?

A: its called a flex pipe they come stock on that car you cant really replace it with a straight pipe as it needs to flex with the engine they are a pricey little thing for as small as they are

Q: CAR PAINTING!!! HELP!!! How i paint my car interiors?
I own a 1992 Toyota Tercel and the dashboard ,and other panels are severely faded. I would like to know if there are any products that would save me some time( rub-on paint?)or something like that. Because it's my daily-drive(college student). THANK YOU!!!

A: just paint it

Q: how much does it cost approx.?
to fix a bad fuel injector on a 1992 toyota tercel dx 4 dr. sedan 1.5 liter automatic 142xxx miles

A: If that is the only problem about $150

Q: Coolant leaking out of Exhaust Manifold!!!!!?
I have a 1992 Toyota Tercel, I have just replaced an engine that had a cracked block with another engine. My problem is that when it turns over I have Antifreeze spilling oout of my Exhaust Manifold. I do not mean onto, I mean coming out of the manifold itself. Can anyone help me out on this. It is possible I have mixed some hoses up, I was pretty meticulous with labeling and putting things right back where they were, but I am up for any suggestions. Thanx. I am using the head that came on the engine. I still have my old engine, so I can still use parts off of that.

A: Sounds like your head gasket is bad or the cylinder head is cracked. If you reused tour cylinder head it may be bad if it came off the cracked block.

Q: can carbon buildup "lock up" an engine?
can carbon buildup "lock up" an engine? the engine is in a 1992 toyota tercel with 110,000 miles.

A: No, You would need so much carbon to do that you would have had major problems long before that.

Q: Is Pimp my Ride still pimping?
My car is a wreck. I have a Toyota Tercel 1992, but I love him and I don't want to get rid of it. I was saving money to paint it but then I had other problems to solve. I've been fixing little things as soon as they break, but my car really needs a major lift, but of course, my budget doesn't allow me to do it. Do you know if the MTV show "Pimp my ride" is still on? I tried the website, but it doesn't have an address or anything. Is there any other show like that one? HEEEEELP!

A: Nope, that show making horrible looking vehicles is over with. I wonder how many of those cars got stolen, broke into and vandalized after the owners got them home??? Sorry but you are probably going to have to scape and save your pennies like the rest of us have had to do to fix up our vehicles. Waiting for a free handout isnt going to get you anywhere.

Q: Car Trouble?
well my car was overheating i bought a new radiator cap and replaced 2 burnout fuses. It still over heats but know not as bad also some times i feel some sort of knocking. I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas. the car is a 1992 toyota tercel

A: Have you put coolant in it? And some oil for the knocking?!

Q: 1992 Celica Sudden Engine power loss?
I have a 1992 Toyota Cleica ST. Sometime between last night and this morning i lost about a quarter to half of my engines power. Its runnin like a Tercel! It also has a new sound coming from my muffler where it will give out one deep engine sound 3-4 times a second like its idling very low. No smoke though. Any ideas? Ok, thanks for your answers so quickly. I went out and did a little test to see if i could further figure it out. I noticed that when i pushed down on each one of my covers, the one second from the left had a tick that matched the motors hum. Would that signify that i lost power in a cylinder? I still got a spark from that wire however...

A: i own a repair shop,,and it sounds like the guts in the muffler have come loose and are clogging up the exhaust system on it,either that or the catalytic converter has gotten stopped up,,that's the only thing that will do what you described that fast on one,,good luck i hope this help,s.

Q: Hi ,I am the one who loan my car to a friend , and now it's done""kaput"", Need some help on it Please!
1992 TOYOTA TERCEL, O,k SHE SAID SHE SLOWED DOWN TO LET A TRUCK PASS, AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED, OIL every where, Well I have the car home now and the clutch is out ? Why ? there is no holes in the oil pan ! or anywhere else, There is oil present on engine, but very little, not much on the inside of the hood, only in the middle of the inside hood why ? about a 12 in by 5 inch sprayed look to it Could she have not put oil in it ? maybe wrong gear? I think she was passing the truck ? but I was not there, she said it did not make a noise Just stopped running . I towed it home today and NO Clutch , and it wont start, but all lights go on etc, It wont turn over,, I know its really hard to know with out seeing it , but Any Ideas? You guys where great last time, thanks . But now that I have it home I see more then I did before ,,There is no oil on the dip stick , oil is not really everywhere? just some on top and under hood and some on bottom of engine? I am really confused, HELP

A: it sounds like the engine is blown up in it,without it having any oil in it,s a good indication it was being ran really hard or was over -revved,either way i think the engine in it is shot,it sounds like from what you have said about it,that the car is pretty well shot now,id find out first where the oil went to,look in under the car really good and see it there are any holes in the block, and go from their with it,there's a problem somewhere, they just don't up and blow up like that one sounds like it did, good luck with it.

Q: After re-wiring..My car stereo only works when I turn on my lights! Sound crackles a bit too. Please help! THX
It is a Toyota Tercel 1992. The stereo is KOSS. I am a novice (obviously) and really could use some tips! When lights are off, the stereo turns on but NO sound. When lights are on, I have sound, but it crackles. I did the wiring LOL! I went to Canadian tire, the girl told me i cannot add my wires to a new harness! I had cut the wires from the original harness, thinking I would not need it, and not knowing there are adapters... I should go buy the harness she had and see what I can do??? What I mean is...my old harness has been cut...can I re-add them, the wires are super short though :( She said they don't sell the new harness for my car, and to try Best Buy.?

A: from what you posted, i believe you did not use a wiring harness to install the new stereo and probably had to cut the original wires in the car. get one and it will be much easier to install. they shouldnt be over $11. they sell them at audio stores just ask for one for ur car. its basically a plug with wires on one end. each wire is colored to match the exact wires on the stereos and makes the installation very easy, fast and safe. because from your original post, you are probably using the "acc" wire on the stereo, and connected it to the headlights power wire. if you did use a wiring harness, then recheck your wires.

Q: I can't go more than 35 mph in the freeway. Can anyone please tell me what to check.?
I am trying to figure out what is wrong with the car. Can any mechanics out there can please help me answer my question. I have this car (Toyota Tercel 1992),(Manual),(4 Cylinder). When I drive down the road the car doesn't go more than 35 mph. It also feels like it the car shakes. At first I thought it was the spark plugs needs to be replace, I bought new spark plugs, but the problem still persist. Please help me. If you know the answer of my problem, please tell me the name of the problem and how much will cost me to get it fixed .

A: It is prob your transmission. It is not allowing your gears to shift to the next. Cost can be a lot but call around first to find the best deal.

Q: radiator fan wont turn off :(?
i have a 1992 2-door toyota tercel, the radiator fan turns on when i start the car, and does not turn off, isnt it only suppose to turn on when it needs to, it turns off when i turn the car off. Another question is that my car does not leak oil, but i think it absorbs alot of it, i put in about two bottles every weak, can u give me sum suggestions on these questions, thank you in advance.. :))

A: Well, if it turns ON, when you start the car... that is a GOOD thing! If it turns OFF when you shut the car OFF, that sort-of MIGHT be a 'GOOD' thing! Let's DO this one first! YES... it SHOULD only come ON when it's needed! I don't know enough about 'foreign' cars to say that I'm an expert, but... from MY experience, the fan WILL come ON, when you start the car... Then... the computer, and all the other 'sensors' will tell the FAN whether or not it needs to be ON, and/OR when to shut-off, and when to come back ON! I have seen it happen, that the FAN will remain ON, after the enigine has been shut-off, and this is part of that particular 'program'. YOURS may say that if the engine is not 'running'... no need for the FAN! I don't know! As for your other question... You state that your car does NOT "LEAK" oil! I have yet to see an engine that 'ABSORBS' oil... I'm going to venture a 'guess', that your engine is BURNING that oil! You probably leave a 'bluish' vapor-trail behind you as you drive! Even in your driveway, the exhaust HAS to have a 'bluish' tint... It would be helpful to know the mileage on your vehicle! You might TRY some 'additives' to free-up the rings, and tighten-up the valves, and the guides! But, it sounds to ME, like you are burning a REAL expensive gas/oil mixture, when you SHOULD only be burning GAS!!!
