Q: 2004 chevy silverado 1500 or 2002 toyota tacoma?
they're both selling for about $6,800 and one of them is going to be my first car.
which truck is better for just driving and no hauling or offroading?
and because the silverado's a full size truck, does it make it harder to drive and park?
A: I haven't driven either, but I'd be willing to bet that more people will like the Chevy instead of the Toyota.
Honestly, I've never encountered a non-American truck that was worthy of being a truck (no offense to people of other countries meant in that statement).

Q: toyota tacoma 2002 dying out while driving or not gasing?
can you help me out
A: need more info dear...4 cylinder or 6? how many miles. there will have to be some testing done...time to take it in to get checked--too many possibilities to guess at...
Q: why would 'check engine' light come on my toyota tacoma?
toyota tacoma 2002 4 cylender 4x4 came on out of the blue with no obvious problem, runs good. what does check engine mean? its got good oil level and new air filter.
A: Check Engine usually means an emissions device problem. I recommend taking the car to a place like autozone and get them to read the code. (They will do it for free). They will also help clear the code to eliminate the light. Sometimes it's a fluke that the light comes on. Sometimes it's an indication that something is begining to go wrong. If after they reset the light, it comes on again, then you have an idea of what is wrong when you take it to the mechanic. The error information will at least point you in the direction of the problem even if it doesn't tell you specifically what the problem it will tell you what sensor tripped the check engine light.
Q: Toyota Tacoma spark plugs?
I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma 2.4L
I am familiar with the basics of changing spark plugs, but this looks a little different from by dad's old Chevy.
I assume it is the stuff on the drivers side that are all connected by some metal bar. It also looks like the coils are on the plugs (no traditional plug wires).
Any special precautions for pulling the metal bar off, etc?
Also, what gap should I use?
Thanks!
A: Not sure on what your calling the metal bar might be injector rail but the spark plugs are in the middle of the valve cover and there is a coil on top of each one and the spark plug gap is .043 in , there is not a single medal bar that holds them all in just a small black box with wires going to it but they will all be separate. Good luck hope i could help.
Q: 02 Toyota Tacoma body work?
How much would it cost to replace the left rear quarter panel and paint it with black mistic paint on a 2002 Toyota Tacoma Ext. Cab?
A: 2-3k
Q: 02 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 liter?
I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 liter 2wd. It has 110k miles on it. It is well maintained. At 100k, I replaced the belts. (Not the timing belt inside engine). Is there anything else that needs to be replaced or checked out? What about shocks and springs? And anything else related to the suspension? The rear drum brakes have never been looked at. Should the drum brakes shoes be replaced? Also, does the truck have any grease fittings on the underside that need attention? The bed squeaks if you rock it back and forth. Any answers are appreciated.
A: This is from the factory service manual for a severe service at 110,000 miles.

Q: How long will a 2002 ford 250 diesel engine last?
My dad has a 2002 ford f250 diesel at 100,000 miles and I can buy it for $13,000. Currently I drive a 2002 toyota tacoma at 50,000 miles and owe $6000 but can get $14,000 for it if I sell it so financially it will won't cost me anything different. I am trying to figure which is the better deal.
A: My last 03 model had 765321 miles when I let it go and heres why .
Once per month: Check all fluid levels under the hood. Automatic transmissions and most power steering fluids need to be checked hot with the engine running,
Every 3000-6000 miles: Lubricate, Oil and Filter. Harsh conditions require more frequent service than highway miles.
Every 5000 miles: Tire rotation. Front tires usually wear faster than rears because they get some side slip from cornering and have more up and down movement than the rears.
Once a year: Have all the lights, the windshield wipers, battery and cables, charging and starting systems, belts and hoses checked and serviced as needed
Q: Is this a good deal on a 2002 Tacoma?
I have been looking for a Toyota Tacoma and have even bidded on some through Ebay, but always get outbided.....:( There is a guy selling one local and it is a 2002 with 130,000 miles. He is asking 11,000.00 for it, but I am wondering if I will insult him if I offer 10,000.00 for it due to the high mileage. It is a V-6 automatic and he claims that most of the miles are highway. Additionally, if anyone could suggest some questions to ask this guy, that would also be helpful..... Thanks a bunch! :)
P.S.- It has a towing package
A: That is a whole lot of miles for a 2002. No doubt it is mostly highway. If that is city miles, he must never have time to eat sleep or do anything else to put that many miles on a vehicle in the city. You never know though. Anyway, you should do research for yourself on it. Don't count on him/her being totally honest. Again, you never know. Check the VIN number with Carfax.com and see if it has been in any reported accidents or has a salvaged title. Also, enter in the vehicle info at Kelly Blook Book and see what the value of it is. Also, do a search for the exact same vehicle online and see what others are selling for and check the price comparison. With it having so many miles, it may be a good idea to have it checked by a licensed mechanic to see if it looks like it might break down soon. It may need a new engine or something that could turn out to be very costly. The links below can help.
Also, in regards to Ebay, if you want to avoid being outbid, figure out your max bid that you are willing to pay for the vehicle. Make sure you are online right at the time the auction will end. Check the price. If it is over what you want to pay, don't bid. If it is under, place your maximum amount you are willing to pay in your bid with about 30 seconds left in the auction and you will win most of the time. I have heard it referred as "sniping" and some other buyers don't like it but it is a fact that popular items prices go up mostly in the last couple minutes of an auction. What these people don't realize when they place their bids in the beginning and middle of an auction is they are just driving the price up. If everyone waited till the last couple minutes, the item would sell at a way cheaper price. Just something to think about. Remember, with Ebay, make sure you are aware of all fees such as shipping fees and interest rates if you finance. And feedback is definitely something to look at. See if they have sold vehicles before and also see if that person just recently bought that vehicle online. He may have received a lemon and is trying to pawn it off on somebody else.
Also, there shouldn't be any kind of insult taken if you offer a lower price. Unless it is an outrageous price like $1,000. People selling vehicles expect to receive a lower offer and hope to take the best offer they get. Your offer isn't much lower and sounds very reasonable. The worst answer he can give is "No". They you try to haggle with him and try to get it for less than the asking price. Worst comes to worse, you pay full price if everything checks out and you are satisfied. Be suspicious if he doesn't want you to check it out.
Good luck. I own a 2005 Toyota Tacoma and it is great.
Q: Whats the best way to buy a new/used vehicle using my paid for toyota tacoma 02 as trade in?
I Bought a 2002 toyota tacoma alittle over a year ago, for 13,000.00 cash. Blue book then was 12,000. Now I'd like to get something alittle newer with more seating. Thinking Ford Explorer or something like it. I've been told I should several diffrent ways to go about it - sell, trade it, take out a loan ect. Help! Best Answer your reward! Also is Ford Explorer a good vehicle? Does Toyota make a good SUV ? If so would it be better to go to Toyota dealership and trade it in? I should also mention I'd like to get a deal where I walk away with some cash or a least no payments. Not asking for much right? thanks
A: OK, you have a lot of questions. Let's start with the first issue.
#1 - Don't trade in your vehicle. Sell it to a private party. You will get more money for it that way (could be $1,000s more.)
#2 - I would take a Toyota over an Explorer, but that is just me.
I would recommend buying a used car vs. a new car. With a new car, you will leave a lot of money at the curb, when you drive off the lot. If you go against my suggestion, be sure and ask your insurance agent about "gap insurance" to cover the difference between your loan payoff amount and the ACV of your car, if it should happen to get totalled. This won't matter, if you do in fact walk out with no payments.
A dealer won't part with money, so again, sell the car yourself, and pay cash for the new one.
The site below has some great savings tips for purchasing your first (or next) vehicle. You seem to be already following the advice, but it is good reading.
Good luck to you, and happy shopping! Drive safely.

Q: Cold Air Intake for a Tacoma?
Would a K&N Cold Air Intake or a throttle body spacer (or both) make any difference in performance or mpg on a 2002 toyota tacoma?
A: yes.
Q: How can I tell if I have a 4 cylinder or a V-6 engine in my Toyota Tacoma?
It's a 2002, 4WD, 5 speed manual, I bought it used and I do not have the specifications.
How can I tell what the engine is by looking under the hood?
Please explain any technical terms - I'm a neophyte with this stuff.
Doh! (I should have known that).
Thanks everyone.
A: Count the spark plug wires...if there are four, then its a four cylinder...
Q: What is a fair price for front and rear shock replacement?
Tomorrow I'm putting new front and rear shocks on my uncle's 2002 Toyota Tacoma 2WD. It's a pretty basic truck to do them on; it doesn't require any coil springs to be compressed. I was wondering what a shop normally would charge for all 4. I want to give him a good deal and he wants to make sure he pays me fairly. We were thinking around $75. Does that sound about right?
A: Is that just the labor charge? The shocks themselves would cost $30 to $40 apiece unless you find a hot deal. Trucks are usually pretty easy things to change shocks on, provided you don't have to compress the front springs, so figure an hour to do all four, given no complications. Places like Sears regularly offer free installation if you buy the shocks there, or alternatively, often offer a buy one get one free deal for DIY folks. I'd wait for one of those deals if I was you.
