Q: To reset the computer on my 1999 Toyota Tacoma I should disconnect what battery cable the + or -?

A: Either, but should be the negative,so if your wrench touching anything when doing so will not cause a short.

Q: toyota tacoma 1999 is it a good buy?
it has 270,000 miles on it. im gong to buy it for 2 grand is thatt a good buy?

A: If it has not been abused, it should be an incredibly good buy. Toyota's Toyota pickup (the Tacoma's predecessor) and the Toyota Tacoma are both reliable and durable vehicles. Consumer Reports accords the 1999 V6 Toyota Tacoma its highest Reliability Verdict, Much Better Than Average. On AutoOnInfo.net's Roster of Motor Vehicles with 300,000 or More Miles, there are these Toyota pickups with reported mileage of more than 400,000: 1996 Toyota Tacoma pickup, with a reported mileage of 503,500 on 10/27/2006, 1986 Toyota Pickup, with a reported mileage of 453,000 on 01/11/2005, 1986 Toyota Pickup, with a reported mileage of 440,209 on 11/29/2002, 1987 Toyota Pickup, with a reported mileage of 417,300 on 03/05/2003, 1987 Toyota Pickup, with a reported mileage of 413,397 on 04/03/2003, 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup, with a reported mileage of 400,158 on 01/20/2004. (Some of these listings have email links, so this may permit you to contact the owners, if the links are still current.) Nonetheless, you should carefully inspect the vehicle to ensure that all is working properly.

Q: 1999 4X4 Toyota Tacoma Starting Problems?
This pickup starts when its cold. Everything has been replaced fuel pump, filters and basically anything they can charge for and it still does the same thing. Myself I think it possibly is the timing belt now but would like to see if anyone has had the same problem. It starts when cold and you can drive it to the store and turn it off and it will not start. A couple hrs later you can start it. It will start if you pull start it. Its a manual transmission. Any ideas let me know. Thank you Yes the battery and starter are fine. It cranks over fine but will not start. Seems like a fuel problem but all that has been gone through and replaced. Sorry Mark that was ment for Norman Great answer Mark, its been taken to several mechanics and even a Toyota dealer.

A: As much money as you've spent it should be running. Hmmm maybe take it in to someone who knows what they're doing would have been cheaper.

Q: Is it possible to change the display color of my 1999 Toyota Tacoma?
It's an extended cab, I want the display to be blue. The LDC radio display

A: On some radios you can and you can do this yourself but you need to be careful. 1. call the dealership and asked them if they have the part number for the bulb first. 2. if they do ask them what the number is. 3. disconnect the battery and let it sit for 10 minutes. 4. pull the radio and the top cover to gain access to the bulb. 5. check to see if the bulb is a plug in type. 6. if it is cross reference the bulb number at any store like radio shack to see if they have the color you are looking for.

Q: Recommended oil for 1999 Tacoma 4 cyl?
I just bought a 1999 Toyota Tundra with 95K. No owners manual. Who knows the oil specs for it? I was thinking 5W-30?

A: That sounds fine with that many miles, or even a high mileage oil.

Q: What is the towing capacity of a Toyota Tacoma vs. a Tundra?
I am looking to buy a used one, probably a 1999 or 2000 model. Thanks!

A: First off....Toyota didnt start making the Tundra until 2000 Model year. Not sure how much different they are but here are towing specs for 2006 models: 3500 lbs for the tacoma....and you can go all the way up to 6500 lbs with the appropriate tow hitches that toyota offers. for the tundra, the max payload is 7100lbs for reg cab; 6900 for access cab; and 6500 for double cab. hope this helps!

Q: Tacoma Trouble?
I have a 1999 toyota tacoma and whenever it is idling the is a rattle coming from it. Upon further inspection, the pitch and frequency of the rattle changes when put into D, R, N, and Park. I thought maybe a belt too tight at first and a pulley was making the rattle but I dunno......any help?

A: it could be a heat shield around the exhaust pipe or a catalytic converter. with the vehicle cool and not running tap on the exhaust lightly with a hammer in different places and see if you can here the same noise. this is only a guess from the imfo you gave. but Ive heard of this before

Q: I need help choosing a Truck. 2001 4x4 , Ford F150 vs Nissan Frontier vs Toyota Tacoma?
I have $12,000 to spend on a truck. I cannot decide, what to get. Im leaning toward the Frontier. So a 1999 F150 4x4 (10K) or a 2001 Nissian Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 (12K)or save longer and get the Toyota Double Cab Tacoma ($16,000K about). Im leaning towards the Nissian which has 66K miles and is a 2001 automatic, dealer wants 12K for it. Any one else thing thats an good idea? About the Tacomas, They all have over 110K miles on them and they are all +16K or more. Dealer are charging a massive premium on the trucks. The Frontier is still a good truck right? Just not as good as the Toyota?

A: TOYOTA, hands down! They are well-made, quality vehicles; it's worth the extra money. Nissan is OK, but not as good as Toyota. DON'T buy the Ford. Ford is absolute crap; It will literally fall apart on you. I'd rather ride the bus than drive a Ford!

Q: When I turn on the heat in my truck I hear a squeaking noise.?
Its a 1999 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner. Also when I let of the accelarator I hear a squeaking noise thats when the heat is off.

A: Your belts need to be replaced. It's an easy thing for a mechanic to do... just take it in. They need replacement about every 70,000 miles.

Q: My brakes sometimes lose power when at a full stop - how can I fix this?
I drive a 1999 Toyota Tacoma with ~ 45,000 miles, mostly in great shape (low miles). I just had it through the garage twice (once for oil / transmission fluid change and once for a check engine light that turned out to be air sensors). But there are two nagging issue that the mechanics have yet to identify: When I'm at a full stop, foot resting on the brake, the brakes will let go and the car will roll forward if the radiator fan comes on or anything else begins drawing enough electricity. It seems the car doesn't have enough power to go around. (The only other problem with the truck is that the gas pedal is a bit sticky when you try to press it sometimes. This isn't a big deal, but I'm not sure if that could be somehow related.) Any idea how I could fix this problem? Is it possible a new battery or cleaning my batter connections may help? Thanks for your help! Just to clarify - the brakes lose grip when the radiator fan or other electric devices come on. I hear you guys that there may be a leak in the braking system, but would a leak like that only become a problem when something else draws power?

A: The brakes could be a leaky check valve, faulty booster, or your master cylinder is developing problems. Electrical is more than likely the alternator diodes. Gas pedal problem probably requires replacing the throttle cable as it must be kinked or damaged somewhere.

Q: Is it possible to get better gas mileage by adding on to your truck?
1999 toyota tacoma 4cyl 2WD...i kno lame...

A: yes, get an air intake of somekind, and get some headers and a new exhaust better gas milage and increase in power http://www.summitracing.com

Q: Where can I find step by step instructions on changing my brake pads and rotors?

Q: Does anyone know what the charge/fine is for a second DUI?
My brother in law got his second DUI last night (GEEZ). He got his first one under the age of 18... now he is 22. Does the punishment matter for the state (CA), or the circumstances... (he was in a drive thru and a cop went up to his window) or does anyone know where I can find out the info on punishment? Asking because my guy really wants his brother to move to where we live and get out of that black hole of destruction that is our home town... lol. Anyways, I hope he learned his lesson, I'm thinking he might have to sale his 1999 Toyota Tacoma to pay the fine, which I thought was a universal $10,000.00 for a seconf offense. BUT I would appreciate any info.

A: Your brother in law is not going to Pelican Bay State Prison for 12 years for his second offense DUI. The person who said that does not have their facts in order. You're probably not going to get a 100% correct answer here, but you can start by reading the law on the issue. Go here: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html And search for sections 23540 and 23542 of the Vehicle Code. They pretty much spell out what the punishment can be...but ultimately, it's up to the judge what it will be (though it's VERY unlikely it will be outside the parameters of the statutory law). Frequently, juvenile convictions don't count once a person turns 18. However, I don't *think* that's the case for DUI...I think it counts against him as much as if he had been an adult. I don't that for certain, and it might make a real difference. Don't get overly excited about the cop walking up to your brother in law at a drive-up window being the way "out" of this case. Ordinarily, if your brother-in-law was stopped at a drive-up (or in a parking lot or at a stop light or ....), and the police just walked up to him and said hello, he'd be toast because the police don't need probable cause to contact someone like that so there's no probable cause to be litigated. I admire your desire to get your brother-in-law out of his home town. However, if you're doing that to help him avoid contact with law enforcement and not to help him stop drinking irresponsibly, you're only postponing the inevitable. His issue is not that the police seem to have frequent run-ins with him, his issue is that he seems to be drinking and driving frequently and only getting caught twice. I'd worry much more about that, if I were you and your husband. My .02 cents. Good luck.

Q: Can I fix my tail light problem myself?
One of the tail lights on my truck isn't working. The bulb isn't burned out - in fact, it is the same bulb as the brake light, and the brake light works fine. I suspect there must be something wrong with the wiring. Does anyone know how I can fix it myself? My truck is a 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4WD

A: Well the bulb is a double element bulb, that means there are 2 filaments inside the bulb. One filament burns brighter than the other. The brighter filament comes on when you hit the brakes, the dimmer filament comes on as a taillight. That is why when you follow a vehicle at night and they hit the brakes the taillights get brighter. Your taillight filament is burned out but the brighter brake light filament is still good, that is why you have a brake light on that side but no taillight. You need to replace the bulb with the same type of double filament bulb and yes, you can do it yourself. Good Luck!
