Q: On my 1998 toyota tacoma the steering is really sloppy?
i was wondering if there is anything a can do to fix it somehow? it is so bad that to the point of making a U-turn, it always is a two-point turn lol
A: If you have a lot of play in the steering it is NOT normal and it could be telling you that something VERY BAD is about to happen. Have your steering and suspension checked IMMEDIATELY.
Q: hi, i have a 1998 toyota tacoma 4cyl 2.7L stick shift. can you tell me how i can get more horsepower out of it?

Q: 1998 Toyota Tacoma sr5 3.4l v6?
I'm gonna get my dads pretty soon so i was wondering if anyone knew any cool ideas for it. My plans are to put 16" rims with low profile tires, a cold air intake, maybw just a K&N airfilter on the stock intake hose. I might put a flowmaster or magnaflow, which ever one sounds cleaner. Then after i do some of that i'll put in a good sound system. Anyone else have any other(better) ideas? Thanks
A: i just hope ur not gonna run low profile tires on a 4x4 ...... if its 2wheel ur ideas sound good ...
Q: Should I wait to get an alignment until after I install new shocks?
... or can I just get an alignment first? I guess more to the point: Do new shocks (in OEM sizes) affect alignment?
This is for a 1998 Toyota Tacoma 4wd, 144k miles
A: Replacing the shocks doesn't affect alignment settings. Doing it before or after the alignment wont make any difference.
Q: What does it mean if I smell gas in my oil?
1998 Toyota Tacoma 4x2
The truck starts fine and there is plenty of oil.
1998 Tacoma - 98k miles
It has been about 3000 miles since my last oil change (I am definitely getting it changed ASAP). Is this one of the reasons oil needs to be changed within that interval?
A: "Adren" is correct. In engines, gas in particular, it's called "Wash Down" when you stop, Rebe the Eng. then turn it off, leaves fuel in the cylinders and it washes back into the oil pan with the oil. Since the truck is a 98, sorry, but have you been operating this way? for some years? If so some cost may be involved.
Q: What do i do if i connected my truck battery wrong??????
I have a 1998 toyota tacoma, 2-door, 4x4, yesterday i was in a hurry and connected the battery backwards pos. to neg. and teh first time we tried to turn it on nothing happened then after that whenever the cables made contact with the battery the horn started to sound. The ignition fuse is good and also the power fuse, but the panel inside doesn't light up when turning the key. Of course the truck doesn't turn on either. Please tell me it isn't the computer!!?!?!?!?!? HELP PLEASE!!!!!! I'M GOING CRAZY!! does anyone know where i could get an wiring diagram on the internet??
A: We had a customer who did the same thing on his tacoma. It blew his computer and the injectors, he ended up turning it in on his insurance because it was an expensive repair.
Q: What can I do about rust damage?
My 1998 Toyota Tacoma only has 43,000 miles on it. The body and the interior are pristine. The problem I have is with the undercarriage. It has a lot of rust damage in the fuel lines and the gas tank, plus there is a section in the rear frame where a section is gone from corrosion. The mechanic told us he can work on making the fuel lines and the gas tank safe, but that the frame isn't repairable. He also says that it can be driven, but that it most likely won't hold up in a severe collision. He also suggested trading it in, but didn't think I would get much for it. Does anyone have any advice of what I should do? Should I try and fix it and let my son drive it, should I try to trade it in and get something else? Please give advise.
A: take it to a rust specialist
Q: What do you think of the Toyota, Tacoma?
1998-2001
Any tips or experience?
I could really use it.
A: I'm driving a 2000 now, I love it. My last two trucks were Toyotas too, I love them. The last two I bought new - I'm pretty controlling so I read all the consumer reports, etc, test drove all the different makers etc. before I bought. The one I have now I bought used. Fantastic trucks, can't say enough good things.
Q: toyota tacoma , nissan frontier , s10, sonoma, ranger?
heres the thing i only have 4000. im looking at a tacoma with 130,000 miles a frontier with 120,000 miles both a 97 and 98 . but then a s10 1998 with 66,000 miles but ive heard ther junk trucks breaking down all the time. then theres plenty of sonomas and rangers i can offord but also heard there junk. so my question is would you go with a toyota with twice as much mileage or the nissan or the chevy with low mileage the toyota and nissan look nice outside just not as new looking as the s10.
A: it has been my experience that Japanese built vehicles tend to have less problems however I would not base your decision on this alone. There are a few guidelines I believe that everyone should follow when looking to buy a used car. 1 research. find as much info as you can on the prospective vehicles, such as average annual maintenance cost and overall owner satisfaction. Also if possible ask to see any maintenance records for the particular vehicle. The more meticulous the previous owner was about the upkeep the less likely you will be inheriting some one Else's headache. Finally and most importantly make arrangements to have it brought to a garage that you trust to get a thorough inspection before any deal is struck. The small fee they may charge you could save you from big trouble in the future and may even help negotiate a lower price if their are minor issues that are not enough to change your mind altogether.
Q: How to maintain a toyota tacoma? Help!!?
It's a 1998 prerunner. It has 139000 miles and i need to know how to maintain it. How often do i get an oil change ect.. what else should be done ect...
Can any1 help!?!?!
A: Oil change: every 3000 miles.
Air filter change: every 3-6 months
Transmission fluid change: every 40,000-50,000 miles
replace spark plugs if never done before.
Check Serpentine belt, and replace if worn or cracked.
Check all hoses, make sure they are soft, springy and not worn out. Replace if necessary.
Make sure tires are filled to correct pressure every week.
Q: Are the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Hilux the same now(2007+)?
Hey guys. I've always loved Tacomas and Hiluxes. Toughest trucks in the world, as confirmed by the inhumane treatment of a Hilux on TopGear. But have been a bit confused lately as to whether or not they're the same. You see, here in the USA, we have the Tacoma, and the rest of the world has the Hilux. Up until 1998-ish they looked the same. But now, they look significantly different.
Are these two trucks still the same? If not, in what ways are they different? Which is the better of the two?
I was also scheming up this idea. Do you think it would be possible to get to Mexico and buy myself a Hilux Diesel, and if need be(close to never) to repair it I could fix it here in the states? That would really be great. A compact with a diesel is what I've always wanted!!!! Plus, I can speak spanish.
Thanks a lot!
Forgot to ask....Do they have the same durability/reliability?
A: here is the link that might answer your question
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Hilux
current hilux is based on the frame on american made toyota trucks that predated the tacoma . today's tacoma's frame were based on landcruiser prada frame but every thing else is essentially the same.
Q: Does my truck have an EGR system?
I have a 1998 toyota tacoma 3.4L trd 4x4. I want to supercharge my engine. In order to get the injector kit from urdusa.com I need to know if it has an egr system. Thanks...
A: EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation and all cars have it as part of emission control into to the atmosphere (cut down on air polution).
Q: What is the best light pickup truck with the best gas mileage?
What is the light pickup with the best gas mileage? Looking for trucks similar to a Toyota Tacoma with years from 1998-2004. thanks.
A: the Toyota or the Nissan or the Chevy s-10 ,s get the best mileage, anything with now with a 4 cylinder or a small v-6 will do good on gas,i think Nissan has most of them beat though on gas mileage, some of the ford rangers do really good on gas also, and i have seen some of the dodge Dakota,s do pretty good on gas,if you stay with a 4 cylinder though on about anything you,ll get some pretty good mileage, good luck.

Q: Tell me if I'm crazy!?
I'm thinking of selling my 2005 Nissan Frontier for a 1998 Toyota Tacoma. I want to put some money in the bank and have a truck I don't mind putting a ton of miles on. Is this Crazy?
P.S. the Nissan is paid for and I'll be able to put 6,000 - 7,000 in the bank
A: It all depends. Will the Toyota Tacoma be paid for, as well? If the answer is yes, I say go for it. Just one suggestion though. Once all transactions are complete, put that extra money into an account that's going to earn you some serious interest. Hey . . . you work hard for the money. Maybe it's time that the money works hard for you.
