Q: 1988 toyota supra?
the temperature needle keeps going up and down it wont stay in one place one minute its at low next minute it jumped to normal temperature like the needle is broken
A: Remove wire plug that goes to temp sender, temp needle should stay one place.then sender is no good,if not then check wiring to cluster or screws behind cluster are loose.HTH and good luck.
Q: how much should i sell a 1988 twin turbo toyota supra imported from japan?
A: Pretend you are buying one and see what they sell for, Ebay is a good bet.
Then price it accordingly to how quickly you want to sell it, however the cheaper it is the less people see it as a bargain (you get what you pay for, or so they say) so don't come down too much.
Q: should i get 1988 toyota supra (non-turbo) kit or a 7mgte engine?
Remember i have a non-turbo engine right now?
and where could i find a kit for it?
A: I would probably go with the engine, as the engine will have all of the bits and pieces all ready to go right out of the box, so to speak.
I would also suggest looking for a suitable Toyota Supra Turbo car to replace the non-turbo that you now own. You can pick them up very cheap, and you will avoid the hassle of making the change over on your present Supra. Whatever you do, be exceeding careful to watch out for blown head gaskets. MKIII Supras are notorious for blowing their head gaskets, especially when overboosted.
Q: I am looking into buying a Toyota Supra w/ a chevy engine. Good idea?
1988 Toyota Supra w/ a chevy engine. still has supra rear-end
A: Not unless you are a darn good mechanic, it will eat your lunch.
Q: how rare is a 1988 twin turbo Toyota supra?
A: not very.

i was wondering if it ws possibel to swap engines not only Toyota Supra JDM 2JZ-GTE Engines but form 1993 engines and up to a 1988 supra
A: yes but you need the engine harness and ecu. It should have a 1jz in it now.
Q: whats wrong with my toyota supra?
I have a 1988 Toyota supra
I drove for about 10 miles going 65 and the car will

the overdrive light will flash but its not in the on position
its not a stick shift either is anybody familiar with this happening to them
A: It's a 19 year old car & ya didn't mention the mileage. ( ? ) Have you been doing yer trans. maintenance every 3 years ? You may find out that maintenance cost alot less than repairs. =^ ) Good Luck !
Q: Buying a Toyota Supra? and how many kms?
Im looking at buying a 1988 Toyota Supra (non turbo), needs a batter, fuel lines, rear parking brake shoes and hardware, it has been sitting for quite a long time so it may need rotors. These are only known problems. Would i be worth it for me to buy this and fix it up? obviously i dont no much problems that would most likely have to be fixed? It has 250,000kms. So would this be worth it for me? Thanks.
* they guy is asking 1000, so i could probably move the price.
A: if you are a mechanic sure i had a 90 turbo supra parts are not cheep but if you are able to do the work or have the money to have repairs made they are great cars
Q: Buying a Toyota Supra? and Fixing it up (with high kms)?
Im looking at buying a 1988 Toyota Supra (non turbo), needs a battery, fuel lines, rear parking brake shoes and hardware, it has been sitting for quite a long time so it may need rotors. Would it be worth it for me to buy this and fix it up with the high kms? obviously i dont no much about cars. What are some other problems that would most likely have to be fixed? It has 250,000kms. How much would i have to spend on it? So would this be worth it for me? Thanks.

A: BATTERY fuel lines, brakes are nothing comparing to shot engine. I know Toyota's engine tend to eat oil after 10 years, Make sure you check the compression and verify how it was maintained, what kind of oil there were putting in. How's the transmission? is it manual or automatic? when was the clutch replaced? who's the driver? is that young guy or older person? Prepare yourself for the worse, of course ask him this kind of questions and try to cut the price in half. It will give you more reasons to lower the price and buy an engine or tranny in case original don't work properly. Good Luck!
Forgot to add, where was the car driving? on the east coast? it may have lots of rust under the body. try to jack it up and look under body, check also exhaust system, you might find a lot more surprises.
Q: Vibrations when turning right in toyota supra very bad shaking and just started rattles car not steerin wheel
Non Turbo 1988 toyota supra while driving runs smooth. but while taking a right turn the back left of the car starts shaking. Then taking a left turns goes back to running smooth. Also while touching the brakes starts to shake but not as back as turning right.
It doesnt do it when going slow even around the sharpest turns
Tires are fine, will run down a drag strip but wont take a right turn going 30+ without vibrations in the entire car coming from the back left
Im jacking it up now to check the back brakes, and will get back on here is 30
A: Sounds like a bad tire dude. Run your hand along the back side of the tire. You may feel something.
Q: this is stupid of me but i hooked the battery up backwards on a mk3 supra. and now it dosnt have no spark?
i think i changed everything but the computer which i aint got no money right now for and the cam position censor which i got but never put on yet. and please no smart ass comments kids. only serious ones thanks its a 1988 toyota supra turbo a/t
A: Normally the computers of cars have a diode that will prevent damage to them in the case of wrong battery polarity. The first thing that normally goes is the alternator.
There is a big possibility that a main fuse or fusible link is blown and that the computer does not get battery voltage because of that. Is it only the spark (ignition) that is missing? Can you hear the fuel-pump, do you smell fuel? What about the instruments and warning lamps, are they ALL working 100%.
Make sure that everything else on the car is working because if it is a main fuse that is blown there may be some other accessories that get their power from the same fuse that will also not working at the moment.
First make sure about these things before you change the computer box.
Q: MkIII Toyota Supra or Datsun 280z?
Ok if you had a choice between the two cars which one would it be? Any of the 240z 260z 0r 280z datsuns or the mk3 1988 supra. Both are straight 6 but the supra is much heavier than the 280z. But the Supra has a higher top speed and comes with the 7mgte dohc 3.0l. Which would you pick if you had the choice?
A: 240 or 260Z. The Supra looks alright, but the Z is the most beautiful car ever.
The fuel injected 280Z sounds incredible, and the tubing looks like a brass instrument. But it isn't reliable, and good luck finding a mechanic who knows what they're doing fixing or diagnosing it. If you buy one of these cars, you will have to become an expert about it. These aren't like modern FI cars, diagnosis is a pain in the ass, neck, and anywhere else you can have pains. Hell, you'd probably be better off installing Megasquirt (fully customizable fuel injection) than leaving the stock system in place.
(The seats are really comfortable, though)
The 240 and 260 are carburated. Any competent grease-monkey will be able to figure it out, and you'll be able to find lots of information about it and parts that will work with it.
The Supra, AFAIK, has no problems but (fixable) head-gasket issues. But it just isn't the same.

Q: why do smell strong fumes while driving with My car windows down?
I have a slightly modified 1988 Toyota supra. The problem I have is fumes. I dont smell them when I have the windows up but when down strong fumes come into the window. I've checked for fuel leaks and didn't notice anything unusual.
The fumes seem to smell of fuel mixed with exhaust. I am able to smell the same thing comming from the pipe while idle.
A: more info please what kind of fumes?
Q: Cost of Car Registration in California, not registered since 2001?
Hi, someone is selling a 1988 Toyota Supra for $450(so cheap because it needs a battery and registration, paint), and it hasnt been registered since 2001. They also lost the title. I tried searching online but I couldn't find any answers, and tried calling the DMV but they had me on hold for an hour. Does anyone know how much it would cost to register this car? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
A: Your best option is to call DMV. Yeah I know they take forever! Make sure the car isn't stolen (no pink slip!!!). Im pretty sure its going to be alot, its been a few years!
