Q: Does anyone know if your insurance rate goes up when you drive a turbo charged car (1987 toyota supra)?

A: Yes, they do charge more if you drive a turbo-charged vehicle unless it isnt factory and you dont mention it. It usually costs more only if you are buying full coverage.

Q: 87 toyota supra brake light problem?
i have a 1987 toyota supra non turbo and i need some help with the brake lights. when i turn the headlights on, the tail lights work, but when i step on the brake, all three of the brake lights do not work (this is including the brake light on the hatchback part of the car). what seems to be causing this problem? can anyone help me? thanks.

A: check the fuses. if none of them are blown, get a wiring diagram and check the wiring you could have a bad connection somewhere.

Q: can i turbo a NON-Turbo Toyota Supra?
can i turbo a NON-Turbo 1987 Toyota Supra that has 175,XXX miles on it. right now it over heats due to a bad head gasket that im replacing but im wondering if the engine will be fine if i turbo it ( after the car has been fixed) at a low boost or even at all.

A: Yes, you could. However at 175K you are likely going to suffer alot of problems (adding boost will make things wear very fast and things are already going downhill). Usually people recommend about 5-11lbs of boost for daily driving, however these numbers aren't working numbers because a small turbo with high boost can make less power than a big turbo with low boost.

Q: Is it better on the engine of a high powered sports car for high rpms?
Heres the question, I own a 1987 Toyota Supra, the car has a 3.0 v-6 24 valve overhead cam engine, very quick car, the person who I bought the car from told me when i am driving the car in town (the car is manual) to keep the car in second gear. Second gear will do up to 30mp, at that point I am just about to 3,000 RPM's, I always thought that normal around town driving you put the car in 3rd gear on a stick shift. Also when I get up to 70mph in 5th gear(overdrive) the car is at 3,000 RPM's, is it better to run a high powered sports car at higher RPM's then a normal everyday car?

A: run it so you have enough power to stay at the current speed. Stay between 2-4k on your car is good for cruising. You don't want to go too low of an rpm otherwise you'll put stress on certain parts trying to accelerate( ie 5th gear at 5mph) If it is turbo i would stay off boost to conserve gas. You don't need high rpm's if you are not using them it just adds to added wear and gas, bottom line.

Q: supra vs. 300zx?
1987 Toyota Supra Turbo: has a 1988 turbo engine thats rated at 230HP and its a V6 automatic. 1986 Nissan 300ZX: has a chevy 350 engine rated at an unknown HP, V8 automatic, holley dominator intake, and a holley 650cfm. which car do you think would be better overall and which on do you think has the most potential? im considering buying one of these cars but i dont know enough to figure out which is better. also, both of the cars do not have original engines. im not sure what engine is in the supra.

A: well if youre going all out balls to the wall power then the 300zx with the smallblock chevy has more potential (chevy parts are cheaper and more abundant), if youre going for reliability then go with the toyota (original engine, no wierd wiring or custom stuff to worry about when/if something breaks)

Q: how can i fix my car so it wont be running rich all the time?
i have a 1987 Toyota Supra 3.0L Non Turbo Engine Electronic fuel injection, so far all i did was wash the engine bay with a high pressure hose, and change the air filter and it is still running rich, i can smell the gas fumes while driving with windows down. what else can i do and give me an estimate for the cost of a repair to fix this problem thanks.

A: does it smell like raw gas like you have a leak if you have a gas leak you are gonna want that fixed right away, if it is truly running rich then it may be a o2 sensor

Q: Need leather seats done for an affordable price?
I have an 1987 toyota supra and i need my two front seats done, but at an affordable price.

A: You might want to try some wrecking yard for used ones, if not, contact a local new car dealer. They will know a third party vendor that does leather.

Q: is my car is about to break down?
i have a 1987 Toyota Supra N/A and it is idling high at 2000 rpm sometimes 2200 rpm, i think it is running rich and also there is blue smoke coming out of the exhaust, what is wrong, and is there a screw somewhere in the engine that i can adjust to lower the idle speed?

A: you are burning oil

Q: Which car should i get/keep?
ok i have a 1987 toyota supra non turbo automatic. this guy wants to sell me a 1991 mitshubishi eclipse for 750 its a standard/manual. non-turbo. i want to race cars. but im not sure if i should buy his car and sell my supra or keep my supra. what should i do and please tell me why?

A: Comparing the two without years, the Toyota is twice the car. But being so old, if you race either one they will nickel and dime you all the way.

Q: Brake lights, blinkers, yet no tail lights?
I have a 1987 Toyota Supra That has no tail lights. I have the brake lights and blinkers in the rear. I have changed the bulbs and the fuses what else could be wrong and how can I fix this problem. Could it also be the lamp failure box I found there and How would I fix this if it is the issue Thank you

A: It has to be something that is causing both sides to fail simultaneously. It could even be in the switch. I would start tracing wires down and checking with a meter to see where you stop getting power, but it is strange that the brake lights work. Good luck.

Q: i flooded my engine with gas what do i do?
its a 1987 toyota supra twin turbo

A: Vehicles have whats called a clear flood mode built in believe it or not press the gas petal all the way to the floor and start the engine. release the gas when the engine cranks and starts to speed up do not release it until the engine starts to speed up. Vehicles that are computer controlled will cut off the gas to the injectors when the petal is mashed to the floor .vehicles with a carb will allow more air into the intake and will not increase the amount of gas.

Q: Which Clutch to use?
I have a 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo and I am looking to push about 15 pounds of boost. I already purchased an unorthadox flywheel and now need a clutch. Ebay offers F1 and XTD. Are these brands any good? Are they reliable? What other brands should I consider and where do I find them for a good price? Thanks!!

A: You want to put 15lbs of boost in a ten year old car....the clutch is the last thing you should worry about. You should take the flywheel back for a refund, put the stock one in and use the money towards the new engine you will be needing.
