Q: How do I disable the car alarm system on Toyota Solara 2004
I scheduled it for transport to another state and the carrier required the alarm system to be disabled. Thanks!

A: If its an aftermarket alarm, find and flip the toggle switch with in 10 seconds of turning on the key. That disables most aftermarket systems. Even many "factory" or "dealership" installed alarms are just basic aftermarket alarms. If it is a true factory installed alarm, your best bet is talking to the dealership about it

Q: What would cause the distinct smell of gasoline when I start my car?
2004 Toyota Camry Solara with only 32,400 miles on it (I work out of my home)...I'm meticulous with oil changes and maintenance, but lately when I start the car I smell gas. It goes away in a minute or two...but what would cause this? Could it be that I don't drive it enough, or what? Also...the engine 'chirps" (fan belt?) until the car has idled for a while and then the sound stops. What do I need to have my mechanic look at?

A: I highly doubt you have a fuel leak. If it was a fuel leak the smell would be constant. On colder days it's typical during the first start of the day to smell a bit of unburnt fuel out the tailpipe. Your under hood squeak is typically caused by a drive belt. The belt is either in need of replacement or it is slipping. Verify for wear or adjust or replace.

Q: how to perform a tune up on an 2004 sebring sedan?
1. how to perform a tune up on a 04 toyota solara? Do I need any special tools ? 2. My sebring has soft spark plug wires. How do I remove them?

A: for a tune up it is usually spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. to pull the bots off the spark plugs a boot puller really helps to not damage the wires. I am a tight wad and usually do the wires too since they do go bad and you are doing a tune up. the wired connect to the plugs and a cap or electronic ignition. you probably have an electronic ignition so you wont need the cap and rotor. you could put a new PCV valve in also. it is cheap. it slides into the valve cover gasket and has one or two rubber hoses coming off of it. a new air filter would be a good idea also.

Q: How 2 pick up used car?To chose a 148kmi Toyota with good records or a 38kmi Honda with terrible records?
The 2004 Honda civic coupe got TOTAL LOSS VEHICL twice,SALVAGE TITLE/CERTIFICATE ISSUED once and stealing once with 38kmi.price:6.5k The 2000 Toyota SOLARA SE with 148kmi,no bad record.price:6.5k

A: six and a half grand could give you a wide variety of choice dont buy the first thing you see make sure you take a friend with some sort of mechanical knowledge dont commit straight away make them think you are not completely interested get a phone number go away and ring them later in the day and make a really low cash offer chances are you will get it i have aquired several things this way trust me it works but if the item has been sold , it doesnt matter there plenty more cars in the lot if possible pay for someone like lube mobile to come and do an inspection befor you hand over cash it could save you a big headache down the track as afterall it is second hand and paperwork has benn forged b4 i wish you the best of luck buying your car and happy motoring

Q: Cant decide what new car to get need some reasonable help?
I would like a soft top. Looking at SAAB 9-3 2004 Toyota Solara 2004-2006 BMW 325 2004 CLK 320 2001 What would be the best option all will be reasonably low miles as I am looking at an ex lease with max 40k. I like that the SAAB has a remote roof that you can click from a distance. The rest seem to have manual/power roofs. Any ideas would be most welcome. I dont really care about insurance costs, MPG or anything like that. I would just like a good driving experience. It will mostly be driven by the beach in southern california

A: Go with the CLK. OHHHH, you're gonna look SOOOOO cool as you cruise the beach and drop into Starbucks coffee shop. Don't forget your scarf, sun glasses, driving gloves, and cap. Gotta do this thing RIGHT, man.

Q: what is better?
2007 pt cruiser or a 2004 toyota solara? the pt cruiser has 18,000 miles the toyota solara has 61,000 miles both in great condition the solara gets better gas mileage

A: solara, FAR better quality than the pt. and a much smoother ride.

Q: need new SHOCKS!!!?
It appears that I need new rear shocks because someone hit the back of my wheel. I have a 2004 Toyota Solara and shocks is running between $900(self owned) and $1200(dealer). This condition is wearing my back tires out quick. I have bought two set of used tires is 3 months and they keep going ball. Also my steering wheel is off and the back of my car wiggles when I go over a bump or rain out side. I cant afford them right now. Some people say I just need an allignment. The dealer claim they cant do an alignment without doing the whole job. Is that true? Is it safe ? For some reason I think if I get an allignment it will fix the problem.

A: I would get the rear struts replaced and then get a 4 wheel alignment.

Q: College student.. I really need your help with my car.... please.....!?
Hello all, I am a college student and of course have no money so thats why i need your help.. I collected some money over the years have got a 2004 Toyota Camry Solara... Its a 2 part questions 1) My keyless enter is not locking or unlocking the driver side door but the passenger side door is locking/unlocking fine? Someone said it may be the actuator... I dont know what that is... 2) I got into a small accident recently, I had my radiator, ac condensor and grill replaced... Someone told me, if I get into an accident, the car starts falling apart, everything gets loose... So is it true, my car will start giving me problems from now on... It wasn't a fender bender I had. I surveyed hit a deer a little but hit the guardrail the most... so it was more than a fender bender.. you cn say i hit the guard rail @30-50 miles an hour.... Certified Toyota dealers fixed my car and they have a reputation to maintain... In that case I shouldn't sell may car cause it wont give mr probelms cause of the accident.... right?

A: 1. I had this problem with my car, the motor kept shorting out. The Actuator is the piece that pops the piece that acutally pops the lock up and down. IF it works without the remote then it is not the actuator and its the motor. If it fails for both the button and the remote, then it is probably the motor. Unfortnatly on my car this was a $300 repair per door and got broken numerous times from people trying to break into my car :( 2. No telling really. Worse is if the place failed to do prpoper repair. i had a car in a minor fender bender. Repair shop failed to tell me or notice my frame was pushed in. Like you said this caused problems down the line. When I am evalutating when it is time to sell a car I find the blue book value, and figure out what I estimate the repair/Maintenance costs will be on it for the next year and if it is higher then the value of the car I sell.

Q: this is driving me up a wall.... can you guys help?
I am in the process of shopping for a car, I really want a Chrysler Sebring lx Coupe 2004 but, the advice I was told is not to get stuck on one particular car. I like the solara (toyota). what is a cute coupe that has great gas milage. low maintaince, under $10,000, that would benefit me for 3-4 yrs.

A: Chrysler is know for transmission trouble, so you may want to think about that. Otherwise I'd say whatever you like as not all Chrysler transmission go out. I've had the go out at 30,000 miles, have put over 100,000 miles on them without any problems.

Q: Help buying a new car.?
I want to buy a convertable. Choices are around, BMW, Mercedes, Audi A4 or Toyota Solara. Need to have 4 seats, thats why the Lexus is out. What do you think are the pros or cons of all the cars. Again I am looking at 2001-2004 (around 25k$) Lexus doesnt have a convertible with 4 seats,

A: The Solara has much room than the other cars, will be way more reliable and is cheaper to own, but it doesn't have the performance of the 3 Germans. The BMW is the drivers car. The Audi is the best looking. The Mercedes Benz has more prestige. If you ask me, I wouldn't buy a BMW, Mercedes or Audi used, they're expensive to buy and very expensive to maintain and repair.
