A: I agree with part of the above comments, I would seek out a parts store or some place that will scan the computer for free and do some research on the issue.
Although sometimes the codes are just emission code that might not have any effects that you feel, it could have an effect on gas mileage. If an O2 sensor is bad you could be losing fuel efficiency. Check the codes and do your research.

A: Hi. I own a 1999 Toyota Solara SLE. the 3 buttons and they are for the garage door opener--i never figured out how to use it tho because I have a wand which opens my garage door. Superior car by the way. thought 2008 is the last year they will be produced. They are being discontinued, a sure sign Toyota is slipping as solara was one of their most reliable and loved models--1999 was the first year Solara came out, and it is this 1999 year which was considered by critics to be the very best of all solara models produced ever since.

My rear struts were replaced
A: An ABS wheel sensor could have been disturbed when they removed the front McPherson struts. Read out the ABS code and it's likely a wheel sensor error code. They might read out the code for you since they know it's possible they could have caused the problem with your ABS wheel sensor. Don't assume though that they are responsible since ABS lights come on for other reasons too. If only the front struts were replaced and no work was done on the rear of the car, maybe they jostled the exhaust system when they put it up on the lift and now you hear the tail pipe or heat shields hitting the body of the car when the engine idles etc. Have them also see if the exhaust is well clear of the car chassis.

A: Not without rebuilding the entire car. The Supra is RWD and the Solora is FWD.

i got $6000 to buy a car, i found several 1999 toyota solaras ranging 90,000 to 100,000 miles, and my borther said he knows some of his friends who sell crown vics, he said i can get like a 2000 and up with good amount of miles on them for $5,000 to $6,000. what do you guys think. my friend said "i wouldnt buy a car with 100,000 miles" that is true, but do crown victorias any good, like do they break alot, are they reliable, one thing that concerns me is the gas milage is about 17mpg on road and 25 or hwy, but i dont drive very far very often, so what do you guys think should i bother calling the guys with toyota solaras, or shuld i just go with the vic?
A: Check www.autotrader.com, you can buy a decent car for 6k. Solaras are not very good Toyotas and old police car can be in bad shape. Check in the webpage to look for a good car.
I would get the Vic, if it were in good shape, but I would check autotrader or cars.com first.

Q: What causes Engine Sputter/Loss of Power w/my 1999 Toyota Solara, Supercharged Engine?
When I accelerate to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) while driving either downhill or on any level road, my engine runs great to ~ 4500 to 5500 RPM. Then it sputters/flutters and loses power.
1. It never does this with a load on the engine, i.e hard accelerating up-hill.
2. It never does this within the first 10/15 minutes of driving.
3. Colder Temperatures (30-60 degrees F) seem to increase the symptoms as well as lower elevations as I approach sea level (I live at 2500' asl)
4. No Engine Trouble Lights have been displayed.
5. Mileage remains excellent.
Althought I have driven the S/C Toyota for more than 40K miles, this problem has recently developed without any warning.

Starting my Solara usually takes two attempts. When I turn the key nothing happens. No clicking or nothing. The dashboard lights come on as normal. Everything appears normal but nothing happening. The second time I turn the key, it starts right up. I've replace the battery, pulled the starter and had it checked at AutoZone. I replaced the battery cables and connectors. I checked all the connections for tightness. And I checked the ignition switch with a meter as best I could. So what's next? Is there a relay I should be checking? Does anyone have any suggestions?
