Q: Toyota Solara?
I'm going to be driving soon and I'm thinking about buying a toyota solara for my first car. Probably a 2000 or 2001. Are these good cars? Also, I've heard some people say that they are girl's cars. Is that true? Hmm, I'm a guy but I've actually really like the solaras. It seems like a camry or a solara fits my personality the best, but I dont want to end up driving a girl's car lol. Also, how much would I expect to pay for one?

A: "The Toyota Camry is one of the best-selling sedans in America. The coupe and convertible versions of this car carry the Solara badge and unique styling. But while the Camry moved onto a new-generation platform for the 2002 model year, the Solara carries over on the previous platform." It is very much a "mans" car. I see many more men driving it than women. I think it is a beautiful car and you cant beat a Toyota!!! I think 2002 is when they got it right though. I would expect to pay between 10K 13K for a 2000 and 12K to 16K for a 2002. If you have the cash, you might want to purchase one from a private seller for a little less.

Q: What fuel grade should I use for a 2004 toyota solara?
I have a 2004 toyota solara I bought it three months ago and I've been using 87 grade fuel, I went on the internet, and others have suggested 89 or higher.ShouldI switch to a higher grade? And would switching cause engine problems?

A: I would use the lowest grade possible. as long as there is no knocking or pinging. (literally a knocking or pinging sound usually heard when driving uphill or towing a load) It's the sound of your gasoline igniting in the cylinder before the spark goes off. You might be able to correct this by adjusting your ignition timing but would lose some power. if you have no problems keep using the lowest grade

Q: Is a toyota solara considered a girl's car?
I don't want to to offend anyone but I was wondering if a toyota solara was more geared to be a girl's car. Reason why is because i've only seen girls driving them.

A: The Solara is a very elegant car and ladies do like them. There are a lot of men driving them as well. I don't think there just for girls but for anyone who likes a nice looking car. Good Luck and GOD Bless

Q: What causes Toyota solara sunroof to make horrible noise when opening/closing?
When ambient temperature is above 80's the sunroof makes a loud binding noise, when is cool outside the sunroof is smooth.

A: I'm guessing that something in the track for the sunroof is swelling when it gets hot and needs to be lubricated. Lubrication of the parts may take care of it. Maybe check your owners manual and see if the maintenance section mentions anything about lubricating the track? If not, I hesitate recommending you just spraying a silicon or WD-40 type lubricant in there without having someone look at it that knows something about it. I may be something very simple and inexpensive that spraying it with lubicant could actually hurt.

Q: How much will it cost to buy a Toyota Solara convertable thats in ok shape?

Q: What tires should I get for my Toyota Solara '06 convertible?
I am almost at 41,000 miles, and I need to buy new tires. Any recommendations? The size is 215/55-17.

A: Let's see... the OE size is 215/55R17 93V so here are some thoughts, Goodyear ResponsEdge 50k warranty Cooper CS4 Touring 60k warranty Toyo Versado LX 40K warranty These are the best option when staying with the OE requirements.

Q: What type of gasoline should I put on my 04 Toyota Solara?
I could not locate the manual guide to see the type of fuel I should use. Normally, I put the Unleaded one, but I'm not sure if it is the right one.

A: Hi, only put in the lowest octane in your area, usually 87 to 89 octane. That would be regular unleaded. It is a waste of money to put higher octane in (like a 91 or higher octane). The octane amounts are on the pumps and are usually labeled as mid-grade or silver. Your Solara has a VVT-i system on the engine, which stands for Variable Valve Timing with intelligence. Essentially, the main computer controls will adjust the valve timing (valves are what allow in the air and allow out the exhaust from each cylinder) to control knocking or pinging in the cylinders. That knocking or pinging is one of the main reasons people move up to a higher octane (besides the slightly increased kick from a higher octane). That valve timing adjustment will be slightly increased or decreased, depending on the fuel octane and quality of the fuel (for example, if there is a little water in the fuel, the VVT-i will increase the valve timing to burn up the water injected into the cylinders). This also means fuel line additives are a waste of money as the system will regulate itself to burn moisture in the lines. If your Solara has been taken care of and you are putting in gas you've never had a problem with, do not spend more money for a higher octane. This is the same system on the 4 or the 6 cylinder.

Q: What's the average cost to fix a sensor on a 99 Toyota Solara?
I'm being quoted 350 to have the job done. Is that a normal tag price? it's a O2 sensor apparently and i'm being charged 350 dollars to do the job completely. Am i being overcharged?

A: I thought it was closer to eleventy billion.

Q: How do i program a remote for a toyota solara??
I recently bought two remotes for my car on the net but I just can't program them...does anybody have an easy way to program them?

A: Go to www.programyourremote.com. The website has been very accurate in my experience. If what they have does not work, you may have a remote that is not Toyota original, or may not even supposed to work for your car. Also, not all Toyotas even came with keyless entry. Do you know for sure that yours did? Without the year model there is no way I can tell, and in fact the only way to really tell is to check it by the VIN number. If you want to send me the VIN, I will check for you: toyodave@yahoo.com. If the remotes or the system on the car is not original Toyota, you will have to determine who the manufacturer is and contact them for instructions. But try the website first. Hope this helps. God Bless!

Q: Will the GPS system from the 2008 Toyota Camry work in a 2004 Toyota Solara?
IF so, will I need a kit or anything?

A: The Factory Navigation systems for Toyota are more involved than just the head unit itself. They need the GPS antenna, but they also tie into the wheel speed sensors and steering wheel directional sensors so that they use "dead reckoning" to show your position on the map even if you lose GPS signal. So, unfortunately, there is not really any reasonable way to install a GPS system from a Toyota equipped with it into one that was not originally designed for it. Hope this helps. ken

Q: toyota solara sle 1999 does not start?
I bought a new battery, the engine does turns, but does not start. it sound like its not geting gas.

A: it could be ones of at LEAST 100 things. it could be anything from a bad sensor to a broken wire. a way to tell if its getting gas is to get to a VERY quiet place like an enclosed garage or at night. and turn the key to the on position you may be able to hear the slight humm of the fuel pump priming itself to build up fuel pressure in the rear of the car. you can do it over and over again just turning the key to the on position to see if it has fuel. if you can hear that you can rule out the pump and the fuel pump relay.
