Q: 2007: Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey?

A: You cannot go wrong with either one. My wife and I spent weeks evaluating both back in 2005. We test drove and researched them over and over and it came down to what we liked in the styling. Both of them are the highest-rated minivans in almost every category and with almost every organization that tested them, such as Consumer Reports, Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Road and Track, and many other on-line organizations. They are always locked in a battle for first. We finally decided on the Honda, but honestly we could have gone either way and been completely happy. My opinion is that the Honda looks better, but looks is such a subjective category. We have 25,000 miles on it, and we have had no problems with it. Because we bought the Honda, I would be remiss not to recommend it.

Q: I got a 2007 Toyota Sienna and its was starting fine until I tried installing reverse sensors. Wont start now.
Using a light tester i found both reverse fuses are blown (will replace those later). But heres where it gets strange, I jump the battery and car starts, everything works well, but as soon as I remove the cables the cars shutsoff instantly. For testing purposes I removed the old battery and put another heavy duty one in (temporarily), and I took the car for a drive. I drove around the block a few times with no problems (10 mins maybe). Now my question is should I get the battery tested or purchase a new battery or do you guys think the alternator may not be charging my batteries. I can keep driving on the temporary baterry and see if it gives up that way I know for sure if the alternator is screwed up.

A: Hi, you have a drain on your battery because you've broken the electrical current loop. Your alternator itself should be fine, but it, and the battery, are not getting a correct amount or enough current to keep the battery charged. It is not strange for the vehicle to stop after you remove the jumper cables, the drained battery will not have enough charge for accessories and all, and the vehicle will stop. All vehicles have a closed loop system with the 12 volt lead acid battery as one point on the loop. Break the loop and any number of issues will develop with the electrical system. Having the battery drain suddenly (without any prior trouble) after splicing into the electrical system and then a different, charged battery allows the vehicle to start is a big clue. A lead acid battery is used to start a vehicle (you know this, of course) and to run the accessories (power plugs in the dash, radio presets, etc. Your radio presets would have been lost when you first broke the loop (spliced in), but your accessories (lights, power ports, etc.) would also continue to not have a proper amount of charge. The thing to do is to retrace your wiring and contact the company you bought the backup sensors from and see what they can tell you. You need to find the power interruption and see if you can restore full flow. BTW, buying a new battery will probably be a waste of money. You have a 3/36 warranty on the battery, it will be covered against defects. A lead acid should never fail this soon if there's nothing wrong. Take it in to your Toyota dealership and have them test it. Explain you aren't able to start your Sienna, but you could at least bring in the battery to see if that's the trouble.

Q: How to change oil filter in2007 toyota sienna xle van.?
need to find location of oil filter in 2007 toyota sienna xle van,

A: Exactley what he said, they are actually easy.

Q: toyota sienna 2007?? need answer!!?
how do i remove the second row seats?? i tried to follow the owner's manual and couldnt get it to work.

A: first, take out the headrests, then, fold the back of the seat over the cushion (the vertical over the horizontal). In the back of the seat (down the cushion) you'll find a small and short belt (black) in a central position but inside or down the cushion, simply pull it and the rear of the seat will lift up. Lift it up in 90 degrees and the front hooks will get loose. To put it again, take the seat in an upright position (the cushion facing forward) and lock it on its hooks (you have to put them in the exact position) then, once they are hooked simply turn the seat to the horizontal position and it will lock itself. After that, put the headrests. You won't be able to do it if they are with the headrests on.

Q: toyota sienna cold start problems?
Just bought a new 2007 Toyota Sienna. I live in new england and one morning last week it was about 25 degrees out and went to start the vehicle and it would turn the starter but the engine would not kick. After I used other resources to get to work i came home and tried to start it again. The outside temp increased to 35 maybe, and after a few attempts got it to start. i then let it run for a half an hour so that it wasn't a flood. then took it to work. After getting to work i shut it off and then tried to start it again and it did the same thing. My wife and i took it to the dealership and left it overnight and they of course couldn't reproduce the problem. I bet if the warranty was up that they could. but anyways. This is a brand new vehicle and should not act this way. Does anyone have any thoughts or had a simular problem? I'm stuck on this one. -Thanks We have had the Sienna since the start of the winter back in September. All winter it has been fine up till now. That was the only time that this has happened but i feel that if it is something that can be fixed then the warranty should cover it. Anyone have any suggestions as to what it may be?

A: Hi ok when you say engine wont kick what does that mean does the engine turn over ok slow or fast does it try to start and fail or does it just click . this is a rare problem and before you think lemon law give your dealer a chance . give me more info and i will try to help Toyota's are good products.

Q: Does anyone know if you can hook up a video game system to the toyota sienna's dvd player?
2007, toyota sienna with dvd player. kids would like to hook up the old N64 to it. Couldn't figure out how to make that work. there are plugins in the back of the dvd player: red, white yellow, that you should be able to plug the system's rca cables into, right? there is also an AVI channel, but we plugged the nintendo in, and it still didn't work, even on that channel. HELP PLEASE To aman: Thanks for trying, but that really didn't help. Can you be more specific? I read through the entire manual and not only was it really badly translated, but it made no mention of the AVI channel other than a picture of the word AVI on the menu.

A: read the user manual - the avi channel needs to be switched on through the dvd player... its mentioned in the manual - read through it. i use my playstation on my alpine - works fine. good luck

Q: Does anyone know how much a car salesman makes in comission on the saLe of a new car?
Just curious. We just bought bought a 2007 Toyota Sienna and wanted to know.

A: Some dealership "Mini's" are actually $50 per car, so there is no way to determine anything. Like the poster above me stated, every dealership has different commission plans, some of which are performance oriented and a sales associate needs to sell a pre-determined amount of vehicles per month to get a bonus, which will augment each of his/hers individual vehicle sales commissions....I have made from $25 on a split deal to well over $2,000 on a single car. There are no magical percentages or universal commission calculators. I hope this answers your un-answerable question. ;)

Q: Can windshield wipers cause a car alarm to go nuts?
I recently purchased a 2007 Toyota Sienna, and last night, after parking the van around 10PM, the alarm decided to sound off at approximately 4AM. Naturally, I assumed it was a break-in, so I checked outside and no one was around, so I turned off the noise and reactivated the alarm. Soon thereafter, the alarm began to 'chirp' intermittently and within 30-40 minutes, the alarm went off again! I even deactivated the alarm at one point, but it reactivated itself 30 seconds later! This became a cycle right up until 7:30 this morning when my wife took the van to work. I lost sleep, my neighbors were upset, and I didn't know what to think. The one thing, however, that we concluded, was the fact that when I had turned off the ignition, the windshield wipers were not completely down, nor were they turned off. I have since contacted Toyota, and was told that the wipers most likely were the cause, but without looking at the alarm, they couldn't be 100% sure. Any thoughts ... car experts?

A: windshield wipers were not the cause, take it back to the dealer

Q: maintenance required!?
I have a 2007 toyota sienna, does anyone know how to reset the maintenance required light in the dash board? I just got it serviced but not by dealer, and the didn't reset it. Thanx!

A: Carman Nguyen is correct. Resetting the light is not part of a normal service, unless you have it done at the dealership. Most independent shops will not do it, unless you ask and they happen to know how it is done! Toyota, in their infinite wisdom, decided not to put this information in the owner's manual, and it is not in many of the databases that independent shops use! They want you to come back to the dealer for service, and if you need to have the light reset, they get a chance to try to sell you the services there! Spacedude4's comment about the mechanic needing to learn to be more careful is wrong. If you want the light reset, you can pay dealership prices, or you can do it yourself!

Q: Basic car question?
My sister is under the assumption that her car has to be driven around or running for 5 - 10 minutes before the heater or the air conditioning will work. So she refuses to turn them on until she feels they are ready. Meanwhile we have to sit and freeze or get overheated. Come on its a 2007 toyota Sienna. Let me add this...She think it will not blow cold or hot air right away.

A: your sister is horribly misinformed. i used to live in texas, i drove a 2001 toyota 4runner limited and used to blast the a/c once i get in, and it became cool instantly, then ice cold within 2 minutes, and that's in texas summer heat. in the winter it takes a about 3-4 mintutes of the car being on before the heater gets hot, but the heated seats takes only a minute. it doesn't hurt the car to turn any of those on right as you start the car.

Q: Opinions on Carmax ?????
I have always bought new cars & trucks. My wife and I are about to purchase a used 2007 Toyota Sienna LE from our local Carmax. Please share any good / bad experiences you have had with Carmax.

A: Carmax is the king of buy low, sell high. I would never deal with them. Everyone I know that has had the misfortune to deal with them say they will never go back.

Q: How to get more gas milage on a 06 minivan?
My dad drives a 2007 Toyota Sienna, i'm tryin to figure out how to get more gas milage on this van. So far I told my dad to inflate the tires, don't accelerate downhill , and removing unnecessary weight in the car, and removing the bars on the roof rack. Do you guys know anyother ways to improve gas milage on this minivan? Plus i wondered that what if we bought a cuastom suspension to lower the van for more direct airflow does it sound a good idea?

A: Sounds like your doing all the right things. Taking the roof rack off does make a difference not only in weight, but also with air flow. Spending a lot of money on a suspension lowering kit doesn't really sound like a cost saver though. You could add a front spoiler for added air flow, that may increase your hwy mpg a little bit.

Q: Will tire size affect Toyota navigation system?
My 2007 Sienna AWD Limited came with 225/60R17 tires. If I use 215/65R16 for winter tires, will this affect the Navigation System? Should I activate the Navigation System's 'Tire Change Calibration' when I switch to or from these tires? Perhaps the GPS data will correct (or ignore) the distance traveled (wheel rotation related) data, or maybe it wont? Is the wheel rotation data only used when GPS signals are unavailable or poor? The stock tires of 2007 Siennas (as well as other years) are either 225/60R17 (the size of my all seasons) or 215/65R16 (the size of winter tires I'm considering). Is the Navigation System available on Siennas with 215/65R16 tires? Has anyone with a Navigation System changed tire sizes? If so, any adverse affects? Anyone know what the 'Navigation: Calibration - Adjust - Tire Change' does? Is it supposed to be used to adjust from a worn tread to brand new tires of the same size, or will some GPS distance measurement be used to determine the circumference of the new tires (possibly of a different size)? I've talked to service staff at a few Toyota dealerships, but can't a a straight answer from anyone. If I used 225/60R17 winter tires & rims I wouldn't need to worry about any Navigation System side-affects. But since no 17" steel Toyota rims are made for Siennas, I must resort to 16" steel Toyota rims, or use non-Toyota steel rims (I don't want to pay big $s for a second set of alloy rims) but then there would be the whole hub-centric issue with which to deal ... (BTW, I am aware of the issues regarding the direct tire pressure monitoring system and a new set of wheels, and that my odometer and speedometer will report slightly inaccurate readings.)

A: Your gps/nav uses a locator sensor in the van to provide your location. Tire size has little to do with it. It will effect it slightly if you are in a "blind" spot as your gps system will use your speed and direction to guide you, but once your locator picks up again it will automatically correct itself.
